Hey Felix,

The parcel arrived today, and I just finished opening it up. All traveled in perfect condition, and I loved the Tiger Beetle pic--thanks! It was spectacular, sort of like Christmas morning! :-) Thank you for some spectacular beetles, and all are wonderful. The C. guaymi are just as you said, with an irridescent green that is not quite like batesi or the other species, just better. C. clypealis is like "chrome" and....and....The C. victorina females are larger and better colored than the few I had from other dealers. One favor--the C. cunninghami did not have data--possible you could provide, please?

All well here, it is now summer--hot and humid. We continue to get rain so the vegetation gets more and more jungle-like. My favorite time of the year.

Your shipment arrived in good condition and what a pleasure it is to do business with a real professional who understands the importance of collecting data.In the past year I have ordered from many other dealers for species I am trying to fill in & many of them are just idiots about data.I just don't see how they can stay in business - I guess because the collectors are as dumb as they are.Dead bugs on pins without data are good enough for them but its a terrible shame to kill all those fascinating little animals for no purpose.When I'm gone my collection will go to the California Academy of Sciences,one of the premeir research entomological colections in this country, so I treat my collection accordingly.

I live 1000 miles north of P.(I dont accept the sinking of Plusiotis as the great jumping hind legs of C. are surely a genus-level character and P.doesnt have them) gloriosa so cant help you there.

Thanks very much for the free specimens; one of them is new to my collection.

I'm just rambling here, odds & ends.In his 1985 book on The Dynastinae of the World,Endrodi places Liteupatorus australicus as a synonym of Haploscapanes australicus.Hope that is helpful.

I would like to see your prices on boucardi gold as I dont have it & cunninghami green.

I am always looking for a black Fornasinius russus,either sex though I have never heard of a black male.

the parcel arrived Wednesday this week. I have yesterday and today
looked over the material.

1: Hemipepsis (Tetraodontonyx) heros Guerin-Menville, 1848 form
autolyca.): The specimen is exactly as described. Forewing between 43
and 44 mm - and in good condition - only a small damage on the tip to
the left hind wing. Many thanks for the male!

2: Pepsis sp. from Peru: This is the species Pepsis heros as I hoped
it would be. The other large species you had to offer, with partly
orange antenna and different wing coloration, is most likely P.
apicata. The P. heros specimen is in good condition - almost no damage
on wings and no defects on body. The forewing is also as described
between 47 and 48 mm. Good.

3: Vespa mandarina gueen from Japan. Nice specimen - 55 mm body length
in stretched position is correct. About 45-46 mm in natural position I
calculate from the length of the forewing. Quite large, but they get
larger in China :-)

4: Robust hunting wasp - When I saw this one in the package I at first
believed that it was something extra you have sent me. This is
actually not a wasp. This is a cuckoo bee in the genus Exaerete which
attacks other bees in the genus Eulaema. They are quite common, so I'm
a bit disappointed about this species and expensive, but ok.

5: Horned wasp from Gabon: I have figured out what kind of peculiar
wasp this is. They belong to the genus Synagris (Eumeninae). I've
contacted a colleague of mine and he could tell me there are several
common species with tusks like this widespread in Africa. I could no
determine the species due to lack of proper keys, but from the
information I have obtained the price is too high. But the specimens
are in good condition and they were a bit bigger than I believed, so I
would like to keep the wasps. Its to much bother to send them back :-)

6: Camp. gigas winged female (queen): Nice and large - as described. Thanks.

Thanks for your great communication throughout the hole deal.

I'm interested in further large Pepsis wasps (also males). 47-48 mm FW
specimens are large individuals, but they get larger (FW=55mm) and
they are not that uncommon in Peru I have been told. Please keep
asking your contacts in Peru about Pepsis specimens in category FW
above 50 mm. Both P. heros (black antenna) and those with partly
orange antenna; P. apicata, P. toppini and other species reach this
size. I'm very interested in these specimens.

I hope on more deals in the future.

The indian ornamental is amazing, and the Avic. amazonica is a very nice species too! I am surprised that more tarantula species are not more widely available - plenty of them are in the pet trade!
I noticed that the spiders have silicone(?) in the abdomens. I intend to remount the specimens, by softening them in hot water. do you think there would be any problems with putting them in hot water (this is how I usually soften other species).

Also please keep me up to date with any new interesting species you may get, especially giant beetles and any arachnids.

The bats are fantastic. I built boxes 17" x 10.5 " and they are perfect for them. Should I put any form of moth crystals or desicant in the box before I seal them in?

Thanks for the extras, my customers love ( as do I ) M cypris and menelaus - I have two shows coming up before Christmas and i am anxious to see if the bats sell.
I can't imagine why they wouldn't .

The other package arrived on Saturday, and I am THRILLED!! The monster Bradyporus is AWESOME!! How many other collections have that, and at that size?
And that centipede is now the largest I have EVER seen. I can cross 'giant centipede' off my wish list; that's likely to be the largest available anywhere.
I am not a member of File Dropper, and I don't want to become a member because it means I will be receiving horrendous amounts of spam. I joined Reunion.com to track down ONE PERSON and have been getting an average of three spams a day just from that one site.
Could you please resend those pictures the normal way. I always print out your pictures for my now enormous insect files.
I still want the African hemipepsis, but not the Pepsis 'monster' specimen with 50mm forewing. I have a Pepsis heros with 60mm forewings, and with the front and hind legs stretched out, it measures 145mm. I am interested in a giant pepsis with a forewing of +60mm if it's available.
I will wait for the resent pictures and then tell you what else I want.

The wasp arrived just fine today. I'm looking forward to spreading this unique specimen and getting involved in African pompilid systematics for a change.

Please let me know if you get any over-grown robber flies from Africa or Madagascar. The most common giants are in the genus Proagonistes and every one of them is a good mimic of the biggest African pompilids - nearly all of them are black with long orange legs. Another fascinating robber from Africa is Hyperechia, whose species are deadringers for large carpenter bees. Nobody collects them (just like with wasps and larger robbers) but they are found near carpenter bee nests - very handsome little "pirates."

Also, there are more species of Hemipepsis and Cyphononix, some of them of considerable size, and several with very handsome coloration. I'm also in the market for max-size specimens of SA Pepsis, particularly from French Guiana and Brazil. Please let me know if you have questions.

I really like the specimen. Thanks again for your help on the price!

Hello Felix,

I think I have forgotten to write and let you know that the package arrived last week. Everything looks fine and I have begun to relax the specimens and will mount them during the next few days.

I was also looking again at some of the photos that you sent to me a few weeks ago. There are some really pretty Arctiidae. If you can get some of those I would be very interested. I don't know the names of these things, however, so you would have to let me indicate interest based upon reviewing photos.

I recieved the specimens yesterday. Thank you very much for good offer and good specimens!
The only think that I am curious is the identification of Callipogon marechali. I had a female of C. merechali and the male specimen that I got from you is somewhat different from the female specimen that I had. That might probably a difference between male and female but I was just curious. I will try to send you the pictures of both of them so that you can compare them.

Hallo Felix,

Ich habe alle Coleoptera präpariert: die Chrysina sind alle sehr schön, insbesondere C. aurora (grün violett) und C. sirenicola (beide ganz speziell).
Von die vier Metaxymorpha gloriosa habe ich (mit ein bischen Räparierwerk) zwei übriggehalten. Eine habe ich mit geöffneten Schilder präpariert. Ganz schön auch.
Die Megalocephala regalis aus Afrika sind auch toll.
Die beiden Falter muss ich noch spannen. Das Material dafür habe ich in Frankreich.

Sag mir bitte Bescheid wann C. magnistriata, C. purulhensis und C. turckheimi eintreffen.
Alles gute & bis wiederhören.

Please keep me in mind if you get any bigger Titanus or anything else exceptionally large.
I would consider any Titanus of 160 mm or larger (do these ever become available?)
I know this is pretty big, and I have only ever seen one advertised years ago.
Do the bigger ones get sold (maybe to Japan)before being advertised on suppliers' lists?
Also I really would like a Papilio leucotaenia if they are ever available.

Hallo Herr Stumpe,

die E. trimeni-Paare sind heute früh wohlbehalten bei mir angekommen.
Sind wirklich schöne Exemplare, besonders das kleinere Pärchen mit dem
grünen Schimmer. Ich glaube ich muß wirklich noch mal einen Spezialisten
kontaktieren, ob es sich um die Unterart transkeiensis handelt. Die Art
E. trimeni ist ansonsten aus der Natalprovinz bekannt aber wohl noch
viel seltener und durch die strengen südafrikanischen Schutzbestimmungen
kaum zu bekommen. Werd die Überweisung heute nun endlich tätigen, nach
dem ich die ganze Woche immer bis spät abend arbeiten musste.
Wünsche Ihnen jetzt noch einen schönen Hochsommer,

Hallo Herr Stumpe,

das Päckchen mit den Käfern ist heute wohlbehalten bei mir angekommen
und die Käfer sind wirklich echt prima. Besonders Dicronorhina kouensis
hatte mir noch in der Dicronorhina-Sammlung gefehlt. War mir vor 2
Jahren mal von einem französischen Sammler zu völlig unakzeptablen
Preisen angeboten worden.
Vielen Dank übrigens für das extra Pärchen Megalorrhina, sind ja echt
schöne große Exemplare.

I got my parcel this morning then I shot off to work.

Had time to take a look at the Goliathus, and at the Chrysina resplendens though: that brightened my day !

Everything is perfect.

The 3 Buprestidae are a nice addition: rugicollis is one of my favourite.
